Something about
NERDS
“A person with a heightened passion for specialized topics and recognized for their exceptional expertise. Previously often misunderstood as socially awkward and eccentric loners, today’s nerd is characterized by social networking, irony and intelligence [sic!]”
What
DRIVES US
“We believe that there are more sustainable ways of doing business. And that we need them.”
We believe it’s possible to create an economy with companies that care about the planet and give people the work they really, really want.
At Nerd Republic, we help companies design and embrace this new way of working. In doing so, we draw on agile and evolutionary organizational development approaches. We are newcomers and professionals from different areas of organizational development and coaching. We are united by the firm conviction that new paths are needed. And that these paths do exist.
We don’t know what the company and the economy of tomorrow will look like. But we agree that it will not look the same as it does now.
We want to actively shape it today.
People, profit and the planet must be brought back into harmony!

100% Personality
Why
nerd?
In the world of work, we are expected to present our “professional” selves and leave all other aspects of our personality outside the workplace. We often have to show a masculine determination and hide our doubts and vulnerability. Our reason is favored, while our emotional, intuitive and spiritual selves are seen as undesirable. There is a fear in organizations that if employees show their full personality in the workplace, they may deliver unpredictable results that will affect the business.
We believe that much, if not most, of ourselves is lost in this. We love it when everyone can be 100% themselves and unpredictable things happen. That’s why we love environments where everyone can be their own nerd, whether it’s Star Wars, magic, a techno party or a museum mile. We take off the masks.
Walk the talk
In the
Republic
We don’t just give expensive tips, we live what we preach. As an organization, we break new ground, change directions and gather experience. We are happy to pass these on. Here is a small excerpt.
Agile work
We use agile methods in our work. We are currently working closely with Scrum, but use other elements such as WSJF for prioritization and story point estimation. It is important to us to use and combine the elements that help us. Of course, we incorporate these trail-and-error experiences into our projects.
Roles instead of positions
Our organization is based on roles and not on positions. The roles are dynamic and the takeover is periodically discussed and agreed. This means that we do not use power and hierarchy structures based on traditional models. Our “career ladder” is relatively short. So are our decision-making processes.
Mobile work & trust
The Republic is not limited to one working city. We promote mobile working, especially as digitalization offers numerous opportunities in this area. We combine this with trust-based working hours and can therefore meet personal needs.
Vacation flatrate
We have decided not to limit vacation times. Everyone can go on vacation as long and as often as they want. It’s hard to believe, but adults are really capable of judging when they need time off and when the Republic needs it. Of course, time off is discussed with colleagues and everyone makes sure that there are enough consecutive vacations.
Required and desired salary
Our toughest nut to crack is the question of salary and wage labor. We are experimenting here with elements from the concepts of “need” and “want” salaries. At the same time, salaries are transparent and we try to focus on amount rather than performance perspectives.
I don't know where I'm going from here,
but I promise it won't be boring

Our daily contribution to
regeneration
We want to make a contribution with many small measures. On the one hand, we offset twice the amount of CO2 that we cause through internal or project-related travel. On the other hand, we always question our daily actions and try to minimize our footprint.
As a member of Stripe Climate, we donate 1% of our sales to the Nerd Academy to support CO2 removal projects.
